Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is one of the oldest systems of medicine in the world dating back over four thousand years.  Its basic principles are rooted in the philosophy of Yin and Yang in which all things are interconnected.  TCM views the mind and body as an energetic whole and works to enhance the body’s natural ability to heal itself.

Many of the concepts associated with TCM, such as qi (pronounced “chee”) have no true equivalent in Western medicine.  Qi, often referred to as the vital force or energy, flows through the body via pathways called meridians.  When its flow becomes imbalanced or blocked it can lead to illness, pain, or weakness.  TCM works to correct these imbalances and promote an even flow of qi thereby restoring health and wellness.

While acupuncture is one of the most recognized forms of treatment used, TCM actually consists of a variety of methods designed to restore health and prevent illness including: Chinese Herbal Medicine, Cupping, Moxibustion, Gua Sha, TCM Nutrition, Tui Na, Tai Chi, and Qi Gong.
